How do I indent my references in Word?

Answer

Hanging indents are used in the APA citation style. A hanging indent is required to format your references properly. See the image below for an example of what a hanging indent looks like.

  1. Select the text where you want to add a hanging indent.

  2. Go to Home > Paragraph dialog launcher > Indents and Spacing.

  3. Under Special, select Hanging.

You can adjust the depth of the indent using the By field.

  4. Select OK.
